Investment bank Morgan Stanley expects internet sales to slice into the sales of Australian retailers, reducing their annual sales growth to 1.7%, compared with their current average growth of 5.2%, by 2015.

Morgan Stanley also said retailers who embrace internet sales share of the growth in the Australian market should rise from about 15 per cent to 27 per cent. Since Australian retailers are under-represented in internet sales, compared to other countries, this should create a "headwind for growth".
